QCT Presents "EVERY CHRISTMAS STORY EVER TOLD"
Today is the first rehearsal for Quincy Community Theatre’s production of Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some!) by Michael Carleton, Jim FitzGerald, and John K. Alvarez, directed by yours truly! This show is hilarious, and gives me another chance to flex my pop culture reference update muscle. It was originally performed in 2003, which means that, much like the chia pets they reference in their notes about script updates, some of the references and things in the original script have grown wildly out of date. It’s exciting to get to dive into a script full of these nuggets and decide what has and hasn’t aged well, and to give a unique spin on the show to make it quintessentially Quincy.
QCT itself is one of the most supported companies I have ever worked at, full stop. This company has 80 years worth of costumes and set pieces in stock, and a longer connection to the community it serves. Its run by dedicated, talented people who are passionate about the work they are doing, and by a veritable army of volunteers who are willing to stitch, build, and donate their time in so many ways. This theatre has a fully fledged education program that some of the LORT companies I have had the privilege of working for would be proud of, and the talent that has come out of this program fuels a percentage of my undergraduate Conservatory pool. I am absolutely thrilled and honored to be creating with this group of people, and I am so excited for the road ahead with this team.
More updates on the rehearsal process (and the process of updating) to come! We open the day after Thanksgiving, 11/30/2019, as an awesome kick-off to the holiday season. For more information on the performance, visit QCT’s page or my Upcoming page.
