Daniella Wheelock is a Chicago-based mixed race queer theatre maker. She is originally from San Diego, California, and graduated magna cum laude from the Conservatory for Theatre Arts at Webster University in St. Louis with a degree in directing. Following her time in St. Louis, Daniella spent the 2016-2017 season with Milwaukee Repertory Theatre as a Directing Emerging Professional Resident, where she assistant directed six shows, including their new production of A Christmas Carol. In addition to the Milwaukee Rep, Daniella has assistant directed at companies such as (re)discover theatre, luminous theatre company, the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. She has directed across the country, in cities including San Diego, Boise, St. Louis, Milwaukee, New York, and, of course, Chicago. She is a proud reader for Campfire Theatre Festival, a DirectorsLabChicago alumna and steering committee member, and the founder and co-curator of the Open Concept, a Chicago-based group created to connect theatre artists and engage them beyond the rehearsal room. Daniella is an outspoken environmental activist, and is passionate about increased diversity in the theatrical room, from the casting room to the season selection committee.
